Club History

The club was formed in 1998 and originally called Saltburn Juniors. The club having been formed by three local police officers Andy Croll, Dave Sadler and Tim Raynes, had been a community project to give local youngsters a chance to pursue a sporting venture by playing one of the nations favourite sports of football rather than follow more negative pastimes.

At that time the club catered for children between the ages of 9 and 13yrs who either lived or went to school in Saltburn.

As the club started from scratch it had to elect a proper committee and open a bank account with the local Barclays bank of Saltburn and the accumulation of the required equipment then began.

The club entered its first team into the Teesside Junior Alliance in 1999 in the under 13 age group and one of those boys went on to play for Hartlepool and England at under 15 level whilst another signed for Scarborough at the same age level.

In the 2000 a girl’s team merged with the club and later when they became too old to be juniors and became ladies it was decided to change the club name to Saltburn Athletic FC.

...As the years go by children come and go as do the coaches and committee members and different age groups are formed. Although Tim Raynes left the club Andy Croll and Dave Sadler whom are both now retired are still with the club. Dave along with his rotary commitments is a committee member whilst Andy still coaches along with his other commitments.

The club over the years have been sponsored locally by Saltburn Rotary club, Saltburn Sale rooms, Ingleby’s Estate Agents and others.

Although we have competed locally in tournaments we have also been to Cleethorpes, Southport and to the prestige’s Keele Cup In Staffordshire when a team of under 16yrs were able to play against teams from England, Scotland, Norway and the USA. They put up a good show against many of the teams whose players were attached to League club academies. There was also a trip to Holland which unfortunately the snow played a part in but we managed to play a few games on an all weather pitch and everyone had a good time.
